EmbedGame
A downloadable addon for Windows
A plugin that allows you to embed your running game in Godot's Main Editor (and its free!).
(Plugin is at the bottom of the page :))
I originally made the EmbedGame plugin to make the development of my game 'Spirebound' easier, when I am on traveling or on trains and other transportation. I am really happy that so many people were interested in it, and so I am putting it online here for free.
You can check out Spirebound, the game I developed the plugin for, right below. Or follow the development on any other channel on linktree. You can also reach out on our discord.
Spirebound
Ascend the great spire of wishes. Embark on adventures, make friends, and overcome your fears as you make your way to the top in this casual adventure platformer in a tiny open world.
Embed Your Game!
Flip the toggle button to embed the game or separate it at any time you want before or while running the game.
Use the shortcuts for extra fast development.
You can use the default Godot shortcuts CTRL + F1...F5 to switch between main editor windows, even while running the game. CTRL + F5 pulls up the Embedded View.
Notes:
- Windows only! Godot 4.3 only. Let me know if you need other Godot Versions.
- The plugin adds an autoload to your game. It's used to communicate a small amount of data to the plugin and also to enable you to switch away from the embedded view using the shortcuts. However, that autoload is automatically removed in exported versions of your game.
- Please let me know in the comments if you need any other functionality for your preferred workflow(s), or if you would like any other features.
- if you donate something it will go towards the development of my game 'spirebound'

When exporting to web i found some dev issues with the console, so for everyone making a html5 export try disabling it before you do it.
This is amazing! Will have to pick up your game now to support this awesome addition to the community!
thank you, much appreciated : )
I get that error masseg
It's windows only
Amazing, thanks for this!
Hi, this addon is cool and all but, what's the license of it? Can i include it on my open source project? Does the code automatically removes themselves on exported project or i need to remove the addon manually?
There is an autoload, which removes itself on startup in exported builds.
You can add it to your open source project(s) no problem. Just don't sell it as yours or use the name, logo and such for selling it as yours.
Linux user here. Thank you for looking into adding Linux support! I really appreciate that.
Actually goated for this plugin, using the hotkeys makes it so nice.
fyi to new godot users DO NOT USE THE IMPORT FEATURE FROM THE ASSETS LIBRARY TAB.
Just extract the zip to the addons folder in your projects folder
This plugin is fantastic! However, I’ve noticed that I need to restart the editor after moving it to my addons folder for it to be detected correctly. Otherwise, I encounter a compilation error and display a bunch of errors in the output tab
Thanks for this! I was getting the same errors and didn't think to just close and reopen Godot. That fixed it!
Absolutely legendary plugin, should be in base Godot no questions asked.
One thing though - is it possible to make it work for multiple instances? I'm developing a multiplayer game and when you compile the game this plugin merges both of the windows into one.
I was just wondering if this would be possible as I am in the same boat, often launching 2 or 4 instances to test multiplayer, so +1 for this feature!
It would be possible to integrate this, but I cannot devot emuch time to this plugin currently. If you are keen on implementing this yourself I would be happy to give you pointers and be available for advice. :)
This looks great! Would appreciate a Mac version.
Simple, Easy to use and install. Solid Extension!
macOS version, please =)
Hi, seems very useful, is it possible for macOS ?
Can you make build for Linux too?
maybe a hacky one, definitely not the same quality, but i am looking into it with the help of some others
I would be interested in helping as well, is it possible to upload the source on github so the GDExtension can be examined and edited to work on linux? Since im assuming that's gonne be where most of the proprietary code is.
Yes Can you join my discord. LEts continue the conversation there!
I just open sourced the code @ https://github.com/nan0m/EmbedGame
